Desde que el americano Ron Mulvihill visitara Sudáfrica y conociera al director Martin Mhando, ambos decidieron reslizar su carrera conjuntamente.

Por su parte, Martin Mhando, había dirigido Yombayomba (1985).
En cuanto a Ron Mulvihill, había dirigido Sharing is unity (1983) y The marriage of Mariamu (1985).
